We are humbled to operate in such diverse locations across the world – and arguably none more beautiful than here in the Maldives!
Each year, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru & Angsana Ihuru Maldives celebrate the progress made on its continuous mission - to embrace and enhance the remarkable environment around us!
Earth Day is a modern environmental movement, occurring each year on April 22nd. People march, plant trees or cleanup their community spaces. Many institutions use this day to pledge new sustainability initiatives and educate about the negative implications and risks associated with irresponsible management of the natural environment. This year’s official Earth Day theme #protectourspecies reflects upon the current loss of animal biodiversity our planet is facing - plastic pollution is a part of this problem and threatens both the environment and its wildlife.
On Earth Day 2018, we pledged to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastic, to address the urgent need for driving global action against this threat. We hope you may join us this Earth Day 2019, in celebrating our current progress of 75% reduction in single use plastic items over the past year. We have organized a community cleanup on local Himmafushi island, involving participants from our resort and the island’s council, schools and NGOs. As we push forward, we hope to raise more awareness about the negative impact from plastic waste and we encourage more people to consider their own behaviours and attitude towards this issue.
